General Info

Walking into the French Quarter at 1494 Ecorse Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot where comfort food and genuine hospitality come together. This restaurant has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes it easy to settle in, whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or planning a laid-back dinner with friends or family. The atmosphere is unpretentious and warm, the kind of place where conversations flow easily and the menu speaks for itself.

The heart of the experience here is the food. The baked chicken stands out right away-tender, well-seasoned, and cooked just right so every bite feels hearty and satisfying. If you’re in the mood for something crispier, the fried chicken breast delivers that classic crunch on the outside with juicy flavor on the inside. These dishes are the kind you remember, not because they’re flashy, but because they’re done with care and consistency.

Sides and classics play an equally important role on the menu. Red beans and rice bring a comforting depth of flavor that pairs perfectly with the chicken dishes, while the garden salad offers a fresh, lighter option without feeling like an afterthought. Biscuits arrive soft and warm, making them ideal for soaking up every last bit on your plate. And when it’s time for dessert, the peach cobbler is hard to ignore-sweet, rich, and comforting, it rounds out the meal in a way that feels indulgent but familiar.

Beyond the food, the French Quarter is thoughtful about guest comfort. The restaurant offers a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and seating, making it a welcoming space for everyone. Reservations are accepted, which is helpful if you’re planning ahead or visiting during busy hours. The overall service style is friendly and attentive without being intrusive, adding to the easygoing experience.

For diners browsing locations, menus, and reviews in the Ypsilanti area, this spot consistently feels dependable and authentic. It’s the kind of restaurant where the focus stays on good food, simple pleasures, and making people feel at home every time they walk through the door.

What customers say?

“ Wow, This place hasn’t changed a bit. I’ve been coming here since I was a little baby and I’m now 32 so that tells you a lot. Am I honest opinion they have the best fried chicken and gypsy and maybe even in Michigan. I’ve always loved that you can choose between original or spicy. The spicy really takes the flavor to another level. The chicken itself is actually infused with spices and different flavors. You really never need any hot sauce or anything with this type of chicken. It is just so flavorful and crispy. Now for the star of the show the gumbo and rice. It’s been a staple here for years and it’s really really good. Also, you must try their biscuits which taste unlike any others that I’ve had. Thank you to the restaurant staff and the owner for keeping a gem like this place open for so long. Especially with Covid and everything happening with prices, the fact that you guys have still cut the quality the same over all these years is actually quite amazing. This place is a must go to if you’re in Ypsilanti. ”

“ TASTY!! I went to French Quarter and tried the gumbo!!! It was very good!! Not tomatoie, if you know what I mean!! And very savory!! So good I had to go back for more!! ”

“ Food is good. I just wish that if they have all the food put up by 830p they put on here that they close at 830. Instead of me driving 30 mins to get here at 830 and everything is put up, not sold out, but put up except biscuits and chicken legs…. ”

“ The spicy chicken was a delight, fries and mac and cheese were good. Not a big fan of the mashed potatos or gizzards, but it really is about the fried chicken so I was not disappointed. The prices were decent, the service was excellent and lots of parking. It's not in a particularly rough strip mall as one reviewer said, it's just a regular old strip mall on Ecorse Rd. ”

“ We stopped in to try something new. What a wonderful surprise! I had crab cakes, hubby had the cod dinner. Yum! From the first bite to the last. Everything was great. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken dinner! ”

“ Great food every time, chicken is always on jam, plus all the soul food fixings, rice, beans, and greens... Gotta have me some French Quarter, and Y'all should too! ”
